when you say outline of one layer, do you mean the non-transparent part of one layer? if so, then ctrl+click that layer to select all the non-transparent parts, and then go to the layer you want a mask on, then click the mask button at the bottom of the layer window, and it should automatically clip out the selection for you.

Thanks Assertn! That was what I was looking for. Ok, so now to take it a step further. What if I want to take a layer and make it into a mask. Like, a layer of brushing that I've already done. How can I make a copy of that and make it into the mask for another layer? Is this possible?

Ehh....that's a bit tricker. I have attempted that in the past myself, but I don't recall coming up with any convenient solution =X

Ok, another question. I have a bunch of brushes that I downloaded but they're all mixed together in a very inefficient way. How do I edit my brushes so I can move them around into different folders and split them up and recategorize and name them?

The Official GotWoot Photoshop Tutorial Thread

couldn't you just do that from the brushes folder just browsing it?

No, I could if they were in different folders, but they're not. I have these 'brush sets' that are made of like 10 b'zillion brush sets and I can never find anything in them and it takes forever for one of them to load up on photoshop. I want to split them up and make them back into smaller ones, but because of the format windows tells me I can only open the file in photoshop, and in photoshop I can only find the option to delete or rename a brush, which is not what I want.

First select the pen tool, I forgot to get a screencap of it, but its on the toolbar so find it lazy asses. Then go here and select this:

now just click and make a path along whatever your rendering. In this case it was already rendered so I just did a quick job, you should zoom in a couple times and get it perfect if you want a perfect render cut.

now once you connect them it'll be all one line then right click and:

now it'll say something like how much you wanna feather just leave it as 0 at hit ok, then it'll make a selection and grab a selection tool and right click-layer via cut

    thats about it

Why not use the Magnetic Lasso? is there something wrong with it that i dont know about?

when you click down, drag before lifting the mouse button, and you'll be able get more subtle curves. Or if you mean literally straight lines, just click without dragging.
