Hm, read some reviews for Ikoku and it sounds too moe for what I'm looking for. Also the characters designs are good ... except for the main girl who looks moe :/

Watched "Anne of Green Gables" as a kid when it was airing in Germany, I think I'd prefer rewatching it in German, too.

Phew, it's hard to find nice, homely anime that aren't moe blob infested.

    but thx anyway

You want historical webtoons? We can also talk that. I'm telling you, that's what you're after.

    I want motion and sound!!!1

Btw totally different topic: So people elsewhere are telling me that Jujutsu Kaisen is actually mega popular, moreso than Kimetsu no Yaiba even. Is that true? And should I give this anime another chance? I dropped it on episode 2 or 3.

It's good. I like it more than Kimetsu no Yaiba. The special abilities in that show are actually special and the fights being scripted around that seem more "tight" than the unclear powerups seen in KnY. In that regards, intra-fight power levels in KnY are more akin to Fairy Tail.

If you particularly despise OP (side) characters however, that might hamper your Jujutsu Kaisen experience. So far it's been fine for me.

Since it wasn't mentioned when I asked for anime similar to Emma: I just started watching "Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette" and so far it's very much the same type of show.

Just wanted to mention it, because it might be enjoyable to some here.

I think I watched a few episodes of it. Les Miserables was one of the first novels I read as a kid, so I guess it was for the old times sake. I can't remember anymore why I didn't keep watching.

Dear god, this anime should be called "dramatic coincidences". I figure "Les Miserable" is a literary classic, but the twists in this story really are only bearable when you acknowledge that it was written ages ago.

I'm at episode 29 and the bs coincidences just keep coming, lol.But it's weirdly addictive, too. This is the kind of anime someone in her/his teens should watch, when you don't have as much experience with stories.

I have to say, I've started watching the Detective Conan-movies (with German dub) and they're really fun. Not groundbreaking, but nicely presented cases with all the characters you know from the series. No idea why I never watched these before, but I'm looking forward to seeing them all.

Just a recommendation in case anyone has interest in detective stories.

Finished a rewatch of "Beck", took me only 3 days. Still a fantastic anime, so anyone who's been wondering whether this is still worth watching: Its!

Question: Someone recently claimed the One Piece-anime series now is really well animated, almost movie-qualtiy. If true, can anyone tell me what's the first episode that's that well animated and also what manga chapter this matches with?

I'm not caught up to the manga, I prefer anime, but I didn't watch the OP anime because what I see was terrible, both in actual animation and pacing. But if that changes later in the story, I'd happily jump back.

    thx

The production shifted and became much better animated at the beginning of the Wano saga, so the last ~150 episodes or so. That doesn't mean the pacing is much improved, if you aren't down for a slow watch.

I'm in the middle of the Dress Rosa-arc in the manga, I think. Would the anime adaptation from here be worth watching animantion-wise?

    thx

Perhaps if you are a big fan. The animation in Dressrosa has some weirdly good scenes (in random seeming places), but I'd say only about 7 or so during the climactic fights, which span 50 Episodes, easy. It's down to how much time you have to dedicate. After that is a mini arc and whole cake island, which is another 120+ episodes before Wano, and most of WCI looks rough. The final battles in all these arcs have some great cuts, though.

    Thx.

I'll just start the anime with the Dress Rosa-arc. I forgot where I was exactyl because it has been months since I read the manga. And if the anime feels too much of a drag, I can always go back to the manga. Starting with episode 629!

Just finished the D4DJ anime and wanted to give a low-key recommendation for it. I gave it a 6/10 on MAL, it's not a must-watch or anything, but: The characters are fun and if you like music, there's lots of it. Plus Rinku-chan is the most unapologetically happy character I've ever seen. Just fun to watch.

    I need recommendations again, lol.

Basically I want good anime set in Renaissance France/Europe or Colonial USA. Post-medieval times but before WW2. IMPORTANT: No shitty over-the-top stories, but grounded, kinda realistic stories, portraying the everyday life of people.

Stories that kinda fit the bill that I already watched:

    - Les Miserables
    - Emma
    - Lady Oscar: Rose of Versailles
    - Georgie
    - Ra Senu no Hoshi/Nadine Star of the Seine

If there's anything involving the French revolution, the rebellion and such, that's what I'd like to see. Musketeer stuff is okay, too.
