Hah hah. I hope they don't think they invented another Gundam... I wouldn't mind some silly ovas (that make C.C. and Lelouch considerably closer to each other) but I wouldn't like anything that screws up the story and the rather stylish ending.

While Lelouch stays dead and CC doesn't appear it will be fine by me.

Seriously... VV and CC could not have been the only Code Bearers in the whole planet... more Geass users surely are out there.

Or maybe they will only do an alternative universe a la gundam.

This sadly, was what I was thinking.

Next we will have C Code Geass (a looooove story), then Code Geass Squadron, followed by Code Geass ROOT and Code Geass ROOT Fate.

Or...alternatively, we'd see a retelling starring Tian Zi this time, but in another country and she'd wear maid clothes, and that would be followed by a prequel about her super badass mother. All the other characters would obviously be older, and Euphemia would be the headmaster of the Academy, Nina her trusty assistant.

Jokes aside, while I'd love to see more Geass-universe stories (written like the first season as opposed to the second for a slightly more adult audience), I felt that they told all you can tell with what they did. They even did the Orbital Weapon bit.

Haha. I wonder what kind of a poor fan needs an official guide to tell him how a series ended... Well, it's of course nothing but the last way to milk the brand for the studio. But at the very least that should make sure they won't make unnecessary sequels anymore.

My previous jokes aside, I thought about the "alternate" versions Sunrise may or may not do to continue milking the Code Geass franchise (much like their other popular title, Gundam). I got bored over the weekend, and read a few chapters out of Code Geass: The Nightmare of Nunnally. [mangaupdates]. A lot like the manga versions of Mai-Hime and Mai Otome, it uses the basic premise of the anime and then messes around with it enough that the two series are quite different.

It's possible (far outside chance) they'd make an animated version of this. The reason? The two authors wrote the script for the original series.

With an ending like that Lelouch's fate isn't in the hands of its creators, but in the hands of the fans.

For me, Lelouch is still alive and laughing his ass off at Suzaku who got epically screwed one last time.

Hey Ryll... since we are talking about the manga... do you happen to know how the fourth manga is called? The one that is set on Feudal Japan and Lelouch's Geass summons the Lancelot?

I like Knightmare of Nunnally for the sole fact there are 4 (or 5?) more Geass Users.

    There are 4 mangas.

    - Lelouch of the Rebellion - Which does NOT have knightmares... and the sole follower of Zero is Kallen. No Black Knights here.

    - Knightmare of Nunnally -

    - Suzaku of the Counterattack

And the feudal one I spoke about.

    EDIT:

    - Tales of an Alternate Shogunate (wikipedia finally added info on it)

    Manga

Kadokawa Shoten has published four manga adaptations of Code Geass, each containing alternate storylines.[30]

The first, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, by Majiko~!, focused on the protagonist of the series, Lelouch Lamperouge. It was originally serialized Monthly Asuka, starting in October 2006. The manga follows the same basic plot with the anime version with slight difference. Primarily, Knightmare Frames does not exist.

The second, Code Geass: Suzaku of the Counterattack (コードギアス 反攻のスザク, Kōdo Giasu: Hankō no Suzaku?), serialized in Beans A magazine, focused on Suzaku Kururugi. Written by Atsuro Yomino, it is set in an alternate reality where Knightmare Frames do not exist. Wearing a human-sized enhancement suit provided by Lloyd to greatly boost his physical ability, Suzaku takes on the identity of Lancelot, a masked government-sponsored crime fighter and superhero. Opposed is the criminal organization known as the Black Knights.

Code Geass: Nightmare of Nunnally (コードギアス ナイトメア・オブ・ナナリー, Kōdo Giasu Naitomea Obu Nanarī?), focused on Lelouch's sister Nunnally Lamperouge, was serialized in Comp Ace and written by Tomomasa Takuma.[30] When Lelouch goes missing in the incident at Shinjuku Ghetto, Nunnally encounters an entity called Nemo, which restores her health and grants her the ability to summon the Knightmare Frame Mark Nemo. Using these, Nunnally attempts to seek out the whereabouts of her brother. However, her actions rouse the interest of the elite covert-ops Britannian Special Foreign Legion "Irregulars," which seeks to capture or kill her.

The most recent manga adaptation, Code Geass: Tales of an Alternate Shogunate ( 幕末異聞録 コードギアス 反逆のルルーシュ, Code Geass: Tales of an Alternate Shogunate?), was serialized in Kerokero Ace. It is set in an alternate history in 1853 with new characters. Britannia's Black Ships appear in the harbor of Uraga. Some years later, Lelouch Lamperouge (琉々朱・爛縁侍, Lelouch Lamperouge?) — brother to a young blind girl named Nunnally (那奈離, Nunnally?) — is the commander of the military counterinsurgence brigade known as the Shinsengumi, formed under the orders of the Shogunate to fight the Black Revolutionaries (黒の維新団, Kuro no Ishin Dan?), a rebel group led by a mysterious masked individual known as Rei (零, lit. Zero?). In fact, these two organizations are one and the same, and they seek to combat in influences of Britannia. Geass is the ability to call upon and summon the armored entities referred to as Knightmares (騎士銘亜, Knightmares?); Lancelot (蘭須露斗, Lancelot?) is one such Knightmare.

Three of the manga series have been licensed for an English language release in North America by Bandai Entertainment.[31].

a predictable and blatant attempt to milk some more money out of the cow. Sure, Geass's TV ratings aren't up there with Gundam, but it did create a lot of cash flow for an original anime.

It's possible that whatever they shovel out could be half-decent, but i'm willing to bet it'll only appeal to the fans, (which is to say, it'll suck ass but many of the fans will love it because it's Code Geass related/based).

Humans are different from animals. We must die for a reason. Now is the time for us to regulate ourselves and reclaim our dignity. The one who holds endless potential and displays his strength and kindness to the world. Only mankind has God, a power that allows us to go above and beyond what we are now, a God that we call "possibility".

Are figures for cash flow and so on available?
if yes, I'm interrested in knowing how much money a good anime can make

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.

Considering financial crises seem to be frequent houseguests for anime companies, I'd say an anime that really makes money is a rarity (possibly only things like Ghibli and other major movies). Also the fact all the personnel working for an anime production, if you believe the articles, are in a position little better than slaves, doesn't speak for any gold mines. So, it's somewhat understandable if they try to get every last yen out of a title.

Besides, I wouldn't mind seeing a few Code Geass OVAs as long as they don't touch the main story. Some C.C. fanservice would be very welcome...

Not saying they are good but... three of the four mangas have been out for a while.

Lelouch of the Rebellion manga has 5 volumes already
Suzaku of the Counterattack ended on volume 2 around halfway through the first anime airing.
Knightmare of Nunnally I believe has 3 volumes out.
Alternate Shogunate is the only manga that started after R2 ended.

We also have several novel series. A retelling of 1st season with many details seen only on picture dramas with 5 volumes. And a second set for 2nd season, which I don't know how many volumes it has.

Also a single volume named Red Tracks which is Kallen centric and Post R2, telling how she entered medical school and cut ties with everyone except Nunnally and Milly. I can't say it for sure, but reading on forums I saw that this supposedely happened after Kallen received the Guren Key back in a box signed by Lelouch with only the following phrase: "fulfill your dreams, that is my tiny little wish"

    Gode Geass R2 - Turn 12.31 Picture Drama (1080p H264) - [schneizelXkannonOTP]

    Code Geass R2 - Turn 12.31 Picture Drama (400p XviD) - [schneizelXkannonOTP]

Not as revealing as some of the others but it adds even more circumstantial evidence to the whole Kannon is flamingly gay for Schneizel argument (as if more was needed). Also reveals their first meeting, quite abnormal if you ask me.

I just discovered this anime this past weekend when YouTube suggested one of the episodes. I ended up watching every single episode; I just couldn't stop!

I think this might be the best anime I have ever seen. Everything about it was just great.

Usually, I don't enjoy the sci-fi/futuristic anime, I prefer the swords and samurai and ninja anime. But the way Code Geass was done made it incredible. The story was just pure genius.

And, as much as I didn't want to see it end, I was very happy with the ending and I pray that they don't ever make anymore or do anything to jeopardize its greatness.

  18. #1838
I would agree with you on that Sidnne for the 1st season. The 2nd season is nowhere as near as good as the first season.

That could be because the 1st season I thought was quite groundbreaking in terms of the story and the characters and all the baggage that they carried.

The 2nd season, you are not as much in awe.

  19. #1839
Hmmm... I don't know, I enjoyed the 2nd season as much as the 1st. I thought it was equally as intelligent and still had a great deal of philosophical elements.

I also felt like season 2 had just as many "Oh shit!" moments as the first.

But, I watched both seasons right in succession over a single weekend, without any time gap between. So for me it might as well have been all one season. That may have something to do with the perception.

The problem with the second season was the amount of material it covered in such a short period of time. It can be said that the developments in the 2nd season amount to twice that of the first (including all the sudden WTF revelations, which would have been much better and easier to accept had it been hinted at and eased in) but had the same amount of time to present it.

BTW, since you have just watched it, do you think Lelouch is dead or alive? I know the anime purposefully made it vague and inconclusive, but I would like to hear your personal opinion, and maybe a brief explanation.
