Manga: The World God Only Knows

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai (神のみぞ知るセカイ, lit. The World God Only Knows?) is an ongoing shōnen manga by Tamiki Wakaki. It has been serialized by Shogakukan in Weekly Shōnen Sunday since its 2008 Issue 19, with individual chapters collected in four tankōbon voulmes as of April 2009. Wakaki created a prototype version of the story which debuted in Shōnen Sunday 2007 Issue 19 and was titled, "Koishite!? Kami-sama!!". As of July 8th, 2009, 59 chapters have been released in Japan.

Plot

Keima Katsuragi, a high school student, is an avid dating sim gamer. He is known on the internet as "The Capturing God" for his legendary skills to be able to "capture" any 2D girl in games. However, in his actual school life, Keima is known as otamegane, a combination of the words otaku and megane. An otaku is a person that loves anime and video games and sometimes it also means a person with strange hobbies like cosplay or dolls, and the word megane means "glasses". However, in this manga it basically means a "four-eyes freak that's into video games".

One day, Keima receives an email offering him a contract to "capture" girls. He accepts what he thought was a challenge, and a demon from hell named Elsia (nickname Elsee) appears. She asks for his aid to help her in catching runaway spirits that hide in people. Apparently, the spirits only hide in the hearts of girls, and the only way to get the souls out is by making the girl fall in love.

After explaining to Elsee that he could only "capture" the girls in games, Keima immediately refuses the contract and claims that he hates all real girls. However, the contract had already been accepted, and he would have to help Elsee no matter what; if he failed, both Elsee and Keima would lose their heads.

I guess original it's in the fact that the main character in this harem manga doesn't want to go after the women ( if he had his way he'd spend all his day at home playing videogames ) but is thrown himself in a situation where that is no longer an option ( with the whole beheading thing )

Anyway, just go read it to realize how funny and entertaining it is

This is a very funny and entertaining series, especially the main character. He is actually a smart and reluctant male lead in a show with tons of women, but not really a simultaneous harem since the series tackles one girl at a time, and practically ignores each one after their arc is completed.

Perfect choice. Ayako [Kawasumi] is my favorite voice actress for her more serious performances (Lamhirh FTW), but her Nodame voice (a little altered for youth) should do great for Elsea.

While I think Aki Toyosaki would be a good fit, Ayako Kawasumi would be a horrible one in my opinion. You have to take "age" into account. Nodame is the right kind of character, but she fits because she's in her twenties. Elsee looks like she's 14, but acts like she's 9. When I think, "A fire truck! ♥" in Nodame's voice, it doesn't fit Elsee's character image. Kana Hanazawa would be much better. Elsee is very much like combination between Yūka Midarezaki (Kyouran Kazoku Nikki), Kagome Ikaruga (Asu no Yoichi) and Kusano (Sekirei).

Ayako Kawasumi would fit the more dignified characters, like the karate girl or Hakua.

Now that I think about it, you are right. I might be overestimating Ayako Kawasumi's ability to change her voice when I mentioned it needed to be altered for youth. Kana Hanazawa is a great choice btw.

Ayako Kawasumi would be perfect for the Karate girl, but I think Hakua is more of a scheming Ojou-sama type than the reserved/arrogant dignified type Ayako portrays best. I think Yui Horie (something like Sawachika) would work. The really Ojou-sama sounding characters might not work as well because of the fake sounding maturity that kind of voice exudes.

Why are you reading at such a slow pace (not that there is anything wrong with it)? I read all the available chapters in one sitting when I did it.
