Don't forget Trans Graham now! That made me laugh out loud when I read it.

Awesome action scenes with a terrible junk ending. I'm gonna pretend this never existed.

    Except Mina. I want her.

@Buff - The pattern for any gundam series is similar to what you described. The more the gundams get advanced, the more similar they become and the less tactical the battles end up.

Gundam shows generally go downhill in terms of quality.

This is the key reason 8th MS Team did so well.

You mean because it never had tactics in the first place?

    Well, yeah.

I'm not saying it's bad, but it certainly isn't your usual gundam fare, much like 8th MS team.

So I watched the movie this morning. I liked it. It did indeed wrap up all the loose ends nicely, however, the issue of Setsuna's love interests could have probably been handled in a much less forced manner(but that would have had to have started in season 2, which it barely touched on at all).

Edit: I just noticed that all the Gundams are twin drives. Intresting.

I only now watched the movie. I didn't even mind the joke subs in the beginning because it became more than obvious very quickly it wasn't the real deal. I mean, even if you forget the subs completely, the scenes and action was like from a parody film. I can't believe how Masa got so trolled...

The first half was a lot better than the second, for reasons Bill already listed. As long as it seemed there might have been something behind the attacks it piqued interest but as soon as it was made evident it's nothing but a faceless hivemind, it fell flat. Especially practically knowing how it would necessarily need to end this belonging to the 00 greater story.

Not a movie to watch for a second time but I didn't get bored as such thanks to the good animation and the few decent characters. Still, I would have liked to see Al and Soma with a child... But at least we got another death escaping scene by Patrick 'Indestructible' Colasour. That guy is a hilarious idiot. Almost made up for Ali's absence.

...Did the producers seriously just realize, "shit we have 3 minutes to wrap up this movie. Cut the battle scene, insert giant flower. Yeah that makes enough sense. Yeah we'll go with that."

I am in a state of absolute confusion.

The movie makes sense. It's great in terms of wrapping up all the loose ends of the 00 series.

    It's just not.. that enjoyable.

    I said it wasn't enjoyable.

However, I did give it credit for what it did well - tying off 00.

I don't think I left much unsaid in one of my previous posts.

Are you serious? What was the giant flower? How did they get the big metal things to stop? wut?

This movie wasn't that bad. It just feels terrible for you guys because y'all didn't spend an hour after a movie analyzing the finer details of the story.

The big metal things stopped after Setsuna warped to their homeworld and integrated with them - showing them and conversing with them about the human world. The aliens seemed to be able to assimilate, but never communicate. It seems that Setsuna was able to maintain his sense of self when he integrated with them.

As for the flower, that can take on a few meanings:

-Life: The flower was a motif in the earlier parts of when Setsuna was unconscious and wandering around the earth, watching everyone fighting and putting forth effort in order to live. It was also a replica of the space-flower, which in turn was symbolism for Felt, who brought Setsuna "back to life".

-Change: Change in order to live was the last thought Setsuna had before he woke from his slumber. Lockon asked Setsuna to change in place of him (who could not drop his previous hatred and understand/encompass all those around him). Setsuna himself has indeed changed, and back in Gundam 00 S2 Episode 22, he probably wouldn't have accepted that flower from Felt (being the self-centric, stubbon brat he was at the beginning of the series), nor attempted to understand and consider her feelings. FYI the title of Gundam 00 S2 Episode 23 is "Flower of Life".

One can also take it as that the ELS themselves were capable of change, and changed their form to something that humans could understand.

The above meanings can be derived from the series/movie alone. However, I do believe the true meaning can only be felt after reading the movie prologue chapter that bridges the gap between S2 and the movie.

    Kid (Yaeru): But...!

Marina: My, what a lovely bride.
As for me... I'm not going anywhere.

Marina: "Marina Ismail" belongs to Azadistan.
She was born in this country and will live here.
(Thoughts) And one day, she will die here.

Feldt: I'm glad that this island was left like it was.

Setsuna: Mm. But we can't count on it being resupplied.*

Feldt: Setsuna, have you relaxed a little?
Maybe being on standby all the time has made you tired.

    Page 6
Setsuna: Thank you, Feldt. I'm fine.
Let's depart soon after repairs are finished.
If we don't move, the chance of us being detected becomes greater.

    Feldt: That's right...
This place is lovely, but it wouldn't do to stay in the same place all the time.

Setsuna: (thoughts) A place that you remain in.

    Page 7
Setsuna: (thoughts) In this world, that place doesn't exist anywhere.
    Only moving, only advancing.
The sky above us is where I exist. [ "sky" here is written with kanji that mean "outer space". ]
I wonder if you are looking at this same sky?

    Marina: Setsuna!

    Page 9
Marina: You... you lived... I'm glad!

    Setsuna: And you.
Congratulations on the restoration of Azadistan.

Marina: Well, to tell you the truth, up until now I've been fumbling, but... please, come in.

    Setsuna: I'm fine here.

    Page 10
Setsuna: I just came to see you one last time.
I can't come here any more.
I am the enemy of the world.
It wouldn't do for me to come and meet with you.

Marina: Our wish is the same.
All we wish for is a peaceful world.

    Page 11

(Narration: But that is like the front and back of a coin: the two do not meet

    Setsuna: I'm going.
I came only for before (??)

Marina: I... will always be here!
    Always.
I will protect this country here!

    Page 12
Marina: Promise me just one thing!
    Wherever you go, be happy!
I'll always be here, so if one day you return to this country...!

    Setsuna: Marina Ismail.
You are the only princess of Azadistan... of my country.

    Page 13/14
(Setsuna's thoughts?) In the cracked, sandy ground, you bloomed like a flower.
No matter how far you stretched your hand, you didn't reach it.
Far away and high up, the sky cleared.
    You were like that sky.
I will not return any more.
    I will not return.
I believed that advancing from where you came from was strength.
    To that me, you...
No matter how many times it took, you stood up and rebuilt.
You taught that kind of strength to me.

    Setsuna: Strange, isn't it?
No matter how much the land withers...
    Flowers always bloom.

    Page 15
Marina: Setsuna, no matter where you are or how far in the future, I'll be wishing for your happiness!

    Setsuna: Goodbye, Marina Ismail.

    Page 16
Feldt: Setsuna, the preparations here are complete! Let's go!
    Setsuna: Understood.

    Page 17
Setsuna (thoughts): I am going to protect this world.
I will become a man who can protect at least one flower's bloom.

    Regene: Hey, hey!

    Wake up, Tieria!
    Hey, hey.
    Are you really asleep?
I dunno about the "dialogues to come", when those are gonna happen, but...*
    Aaaaanyway, that'll probably never happen!
    Heeey, are you listening, Tieria?

    Page 19
Regene: Hanging out here, maintaining this sort of unimportant image...
It's so boring. I wonder if there's something interesting I could do...

    Tieria: Don't.

Regene: [ I am really wary of translating this line, because if I get it wrong I could imply something about Ribbons' current state that I'm not sure if I'm supposed to. He's talking about Ribbons being stored somewhere, but he can't talk to Ribbons. ]

Hey, this body... do you like the base pattern?

Tieria: Whether I like it or not, it's me.

Regene: Uwaaa, Tieria's showing his human influence!

Tieria: Whether I've been influenced or not, I'm human.

[ the word used here is 'kabure', which means variously influence, affectation, crazy about, etc. I chose the least awkward translation for sake of ease, but basically Regene's going "there you go, acting all human like you like to, you crazy kid!" Sort of. ]

    Page 20
    Regene: Good morning, Tieria!

    Tieria: I'm not waking up.

Regene: Whaaaat? You're going back to sleep?

Tieria: Regene, you're just doing as you please...

    Page 21
Tieria: It will be good if I can see this world's journey towards the future.
(thoughts)No matter if it's painful, after I sleep
    Someday
When the light of a true innovator shines out, I will be awakened.

Regene: [ it's blurry, but he's asking what will happen if something ends before that happens ]

    Tieria: It won't end.

    Page 22
    Tieria: Setsuna
I'm looking forward to the next time we can meet...

    Regene: ...
So I've got free time, huh...
I've got free time, so... I guess I can gather information or whatever from the world...
    Wha? War, again? What idiots.

    Page 23
    Feldt: Kya!

    Lyle: What happened, Feldt?

Feldt: Oh... I'm sorry, it's just my hair clip.
    It broke a little bit...

Lyle: [text is too blurry, but he's wondering if it's fixable]

Feldt: That... If it's broken beyond repair, that's a problem!
    Chris gave it to me...

    Page 24
    Feldt: Oh no...
Since it's precious, I should have put it away safely.

    Lyle: Don't worry about it.
Since it's important, you wanted it close to you, right?
Let's see here... want me to try and fix it?

    Feldt: Fix it...?

Lyle: It just popped out of place, so it should be fine, right?

Sumeragi: What are you doing? Looks like fun!

    Page 25
    Feldt: Sumeragi-san!
Lockon is just fixing my hair clip for me.

    Sumeragi: What a handyman!

Lyle: I wouldn't go that far.

Sumeragi: Oh, by the way. I've had an update from Allelujah. It seems that the two of them are near the Himalayas. I wonder if they can see Mt. Everest?

    Feldt: They can't see it.

Sumeragi: That kid's got unending amounts of doubt, too!

    Lyle: Isn't that fine?
People who can decide without doubting at all scare me.

    Page 26
    Lyle: It's done.

    Feldt: Thank you, Lockon!
    I'm so happy.

    Marie: All done.

    Allelujah: Thanks, Marie.

    Marie: You're welcome.
    Your hair's grown, hasn't it.

    Allelujah: Yeah...

    Marie: It's gotten nice.

    Page 27
Allelujah: Marie... do you want to go back to where everyone else is?

Marie: Sure. As long as I'm with you, Allelujah, there's nowhere I can't go.

    Page 28
    Allelujah: It's peaceful, isn't it.
It's like there's no one in the world but us.

    Page 30
Marina: From time to time, when night comes...
I think that you've come back to visit me.

    Page 31
Marina: If I said I wanted to come with you, would you bring me up into the sky?
    No...
You and I, that's not what we wish for.
I will wait here, spreading roots and allowing flowers to grow.
So that the you of the sky can see them too...

    Page 32
Marina: I am your measure of eternity.

    Source of translations.

That chapter really explains Marina words about seeing Setsuna's thoughts, why he wanted to make a giant flower in space, and why Marina ends up having a giant flower garden by the time she's 81.

    00 was also split well into 3 parts - S1, S2, Movie

World politics: Unite the 3 powers of the world with each other -> Unite conservative humanity with Innovadors -> Unite humanity with extra-terrestrial life.

Technology: Develop the quantum particles to produce Innovators -> develop the 00 engine to allow for quantisation/thought transmission -> Develop a warp engine to use all of the above for the "dialogue to come".

As a movie, it had its shortcomings. I really didn't care for half the shit that happened (aka anything outside of beams and missiles and Soma).

As a finishing piece to the whole series? I have to applaud it. It puts an entirely different (and revealing) spin on Aeolia Schoenberg's plans and the purpose of Celestial Being.

It's the ELS' way of saying:
-"Oh, assimilating things is bad? Let's tell them we're sorry."
-"But we can't communicate with them!"
-"Then let's tell that guy who can we communicate with we're sorry."
    -"Umm... he just left."
-"Then what are we supposed to do?!"
-"Hey, when we read that guy's mind, there's this soft radial yellow thing-y that keeps popping out. It seems that, to him this, this is the symbol for peace."
    -"Let's use that shape!"
*ELS Mothership transforms to a giant space flower*
-"This looks gay... Oh wait it's working!"

And they lived happily ever after... The End.
I really don't get why some people can't get the purpose of the giant space flower. Sure, it looks stupid but it made sense.

And if you're still confused or have more questions, I suggest that you listen to Gundamn!@MAHQ's episode 70 podcast.

Well put, it makes sense now. So just to clarify, the ELS didn't realize that it was fucking Earth up by assimilating everything?
