    Gundam AGE

As per requested, I will create a new thread.

    (copy/pasted from other thread)
    {SAGE} Gundam AGE episode 1 720p

    Overall, pretty generic.

    CONS (mostly nitpicky stuff):

-"Yeah, UE attacks other places, but theyre not going to attack here".
-And then Flint argues with the teacher...like THATS going to change anything. Shouldnt he be taking that to like the admiral or something? Since you know, they trust him with the development of a mobile suit anyways.
-SFX are pretty generic. Then again, I thought the same thing about 00 and I got over it. Also sounds like theyre recycling SEED SFXs too.
-Friend of mine was complaining about how AGE and UE can take alot of shots and show no damage. Doesnt bother me too much, considering the tone of the show. Plus, that short of thing has been seen before in Gundam.

    PROS:
-MC is apparently a freaking genius. Built his own damn Gundam. And apparently they gave him full control (atleast in in development). And, so far, it doesnt look like its gotten to his head like certain other Gundam protags. Yeah, hes a bit anti-social but hes just trying to save the world and such.
-Still not a fan of the character designs, but the Mobile Suits didnt look too shabby.

Thats all I got for now really. Considering that its only the first episode and its intended audience, I dont want to be TOO judgmental. As I said before, I will keep my expectations low and hope for the best.

    Angry

The entire episode felt a bit rushed, but not too bad. My biggest problem is how they jumped from:

"Dying mother hands him designs to a gundam." -> "Kid has designs to a gundam, he is a god damn genius." -> "Kid has designs to a gundam, nearly zero learning curve inside cockpit during an actual battle when it was stated that it was so early in development that they only managed to do a mobility test to see if the gundam could even walk."

Even the whole fact that the commander in charge of the single mobile suit which has any chance to save the entire colony was just like:

    "What are you doing?!"
    *stern look
"Okay, let the 14 year old with no training pilot it."

Aside from the commander and that engineer who looks like Dr. Robotnik's brother, everyone else seems really normal. On the point of normal though, likelyhood that the sub-commander guy who was zoning out is a UE spy? 70%.

Isn't a young boy w/o piloting experience jumping in a MS a returning occurance in Gundam series?

What I recall, Frit mentioned that the MS testing procedure was too slow, because he knew it would work.
He built the suit himself, so I think it's only natural that you know how to pilot it. And since it's a gundam series, he's also a piloting genious..
I think he was allowed to sortie because there were no other capable pilots or something.

That 'sub-commander guy' seemed to hyperventilate to me.

They had no choice but to allow him. Heck, it's not even such an issue, since they could not stop him if they tried.

This show is generic Gundam drivel.

Well, at least the recent main characters have had some type of experience or a more valid past than their mother handing them the designs to a gundam. In 00 they all had training at some point with mobile suits before the series actually started. In SEED, ultimate coordinator bullshit aside, Kira was an engineering genius who was actually helping design the gundams (by helping his professor) and was studying robotics and probably by extension mobile suit design. SEED Destiny they all had prior training. Kamille in ZETA did amateur mobile suit design and was exposed to them constantly. Amuro studied robotics and even built his own.

My point is that it feels rushed to say that he had no interest in mobile suits and then his mother hands him designs to one of the most advanced mobile suits of his era and so he turns into a genius. We don't even get to see this on screen at all, it's just something we have to take people's word for with a short two minute segment. If he is such a genius that he can handle reading mobile suit designs and actually doing helpful work during it's creation then why the hell is he in the same class as all the normal people? Why does his teacher act like everything he says is bullshit? I got the impression that the military was just humoring him because he gave them the designs to a legendary weapon and that the teacher and the rest of the class were calling him out.

Yeah, then he drops in an untested mobile suit that he had designs for and rips apart a veteran pilot within moments after walking out the bay doors. /facepalm

I think I've heard enough to make an educated decision not to watch this show. That sort of thing Barumonk just described is exceedingly high on my do-not-like list.

The kiddiness of this show just feels awkward in a Gundam setting. Flit looks like the age where he should be playing with Beyblades or Cards or something, not piloting war machines meant to destroy and kill (Although if the target audience is indeed little kids, I doubt there will be any killing). Mixing kids and Gundams just seems like a bad idea to me...
Also, I noticed him having trouble climbing a ladder, and then moments later I am lead to believe he can proficiently pilot a Gundam?

Anyways, it doesn't seem like a show for anyone older than 15.

Im not that big of a Gundam fan as others... but I honestly don't saw a problem with the first episode. The style reminded me a lot of the original series with Amuro and the gang.

How are the subs from {sage} ?
Is this the only group that subs it?
I streamed the first episode using aussieproxy.info, but it doesn't seem to work with ep 2

As far as I can tell, they are the only group subbing this. Theyre not too bad, but then I'm not usually picky when it comes to sub groups.

    {sage} Gundam AGE Episode 2 720p

Not too sure how I feel about the AGE builder. Otherwise, an interesting episode.

I thought it was cool. I just hope it won't become some deus ex machina. That Yurin girl reminds me a lot of Tifa from Gundam X.

Yurin is pretty much Tiffa Adil
Something tells me she is connected to the UE.

The Age builder is an interesting idea, but the high speed building of parts is a bit overdoing it in my opinion. Although the CG was pretty sweet
Analysing the combat data and coming up with a countermeasure is fine, but making it in a few seconds is just too much.

I feel like episode 2 and 3 were able to alleviate some of my initial problems with the show. Overall I don't think its completely terrible, but.. yeah, the bad guys are furries. I'm done.

So far the show keeps me entertained. Fights are decent, story is nice so far.
I have to say, the exploding colony was very nicely executed. Showing previously seen places go up in flames is amazing.

    Prewatching:
so at first i was like "a new Gundam show? oh, well it'll probably be another UC based spinoff that doesn't add any-... ...what? NOT A UC SPINOFF? then... ... then... wait... .... oh god, no... .... ....wait... aliens? ... no. no. nononononononononnonononono"

i've watched just about every Gundam show ever. i'm watching this.

still, i'm more than a little broken up inside. it honestly feels like this franchise has lost touch with so many of the things that made it great (insight on war, politics, technology and the interplay between the three), in order to stick with the things that made it popular (middle school boy got the coolest robot ever).

it really sucks that i'm going into this knowing that i can't honestly expect it to be any good, or to hold it up to any high standards. that's exactly what i used to watch Gundam for, to have a "standard". sure, it was often overly serious, largely nonsensical philosophical drivel combined with color-gradient censored montages of naked teenagers adrift in the cosmos, but it was more than entertainment. it was trying to be something more important.

    tl;dr
    Gundam was serious business.
    Now it's Pikachu in space.

11 Random Things That Masa Found When He Went To Watch Gundam AGE Episode 01: The Savior, Gundam and Wept

00:10 - Pew pew pew. Pew pew pew. Even the sound effects are already phoning it in. And we're ten seconds in.
09:40 - ah, the faceless enemy. and they even make animal growls... i am somehow not impressed. then again, Char's awesome red suit and cape didn't wow me either at first...
10:54 - "what are the UE really?" ... ... well... that may be a mystery i can get into. it could add a wrinkle or two into this seemingly overly simple story.
06:08 - Doctor Robotnik's parallel universe goody-two-shoes brother is so going to deus ex machina the shit out of this show
20:55 - Rule 1 of the UE: Leave no dead. And that answers a lot of my questions about how humanity sucks so hard against these alien guys.
15:45 - i Lol'd. that Largan guy is so fucking stupid. i'm going to laugh so hard when he finally dies and they try to pass it off as serious, because this cretin deserves to be dead before the first ED even rolled.
14:14 - they CENSORED OUT the Feddy mobile suit getting cut up. too graphic for this audience? not in last century it wasn't, right?
16:42 - "flit will be fine. his determination is as good as a soldiers." <-- if you can figure out what is wrong with this sentence, you know why i'm not in love with this show.
22:00 - red ship and single slit eyes. they really have turned Zeon into Zombies... Alien zombies...
17:48 - a female character who might be the only character i like in a Gundam show? this whole thing is backwards
20:14 - but the kid can carve up the CharZaku with three nasty stabs to the cockpit (is he trying to explode the nuclear reactor, or is that never going to happen in this show?) and it's the triumphant moment of the episode. yuck.

Humans are different from animals. We must die for a reason. Now is the time for us to regulate ourselves and reclaim our dignity. The one who holds endless potential and displays his strength and kindness to the world. Only mankind has God, a power that allows us to go above and beyond what we are now, a God that we call "possibility".

Well, there was G Gundam and I love it despite being too goofy and alien compared to the rest of franchise so I'm giving this series a chance.

Coming back to say that I was wrong about the enemy furries, instead he is an ally/rival furry. Improvement? Honestly once you get past the ears.. yeah. He is experienced, level headed and likes to pick on the main character who's name I didn't bother to remember. Best character in the show and he has only been in one episode.
