Sadly, it wasn't even as pompous as during the Lizard Arc, where he used an army of high-tier skeletons to use as stairs, freeze a lake so he wouldn't dirty his feet etc.
It was pretty harmless overall and I guess the whole episode was wasted due to that. There was hardly any need to animate that part, basically, he could've sent some minions to deal and subjugate them and thus skip a good 15 minutes ahead to the siege of the village.
But without this episode, we wouldn't have the scene where the 70-year-old kid thinks her god is going to fuck her!

Most likely because he has been training.
I mean, the Naga can only go invi, which is useless outside of ambushes and escape. The troll can heal though, so Hamscorpion might lose in a battle of attrition.

Yeah, this series could have used more gruesome designs instead of the cartoonish, comical ones. The light novel illustrations themselves have the humanoid characters not much different from what we are seeing here, but the monsters, Ainz included, are more gritty and dangerous looking. I guess it's a budget thing, although I'm sure they could have done something about it.
The jarring art style would have been weird. I'd rather they do this and just take it comically. The dudes could have been drawn better or have some more interesting colours/features, but to make it gruesome all of a sudden would be simply off putting.

Well, it's not like the show has been mild in terms of brutality.
It has been bad at animating stuff, but the things that happen on screen are pretty dark.
Ains ripped out the beating heart of a human soldier and squashed it.
The Deathknight beheaded and cut multiple warriors in half, we even got to see it in first person from a soldiers point of view who was about to lose his head. - it's not like these moments were "funny" when they happened just because it looked silly.
The list goes on and is pretty long.
It wouldn't really harm the show to animate it properly, obviously the novel art style is unrealsticly detailed but there are better ways and better CGI that would fit in very well.
The scenes in that episode lacked any impact due to how the enemies looked, the Barghest would've made a much better enemy. Would've fit in quite nicely as well.
I'm really disappointed in *how* bad it was. The troll (and even worse the trolls behind him) was (were) some kind of CGI - shader - rough sketch mishmash... I don't even know how to describe it.
It was below the already very low effort CGI we've seen so far.

I don't know, I think Ainz has shown himself to be quite evil overall. In the beginning I thought the series would be more of a hero trying to keep the facade of being evil and always finding a way to rationalize a way to not do evil deeds (and not always managing to), but it seems as the series as gone on that the influence of his human side has been dwindling.
So, I don't know what he has entailed this time around, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me at this point if he massacred the lot for whatever purpose he's deeming worthy.
Well, it doesn't help that his lich form seems to actively suppress his human emotions.
But also, I think he's just telling Lupis what she wants to hear. He doesn't want any of the villagers killed, but he can't think of a good excuse for why the others need to be protected.
It also doesn't help that a lot of humans in this world are shit, and not worth saving in the first place.
True. I just thought that with his Momon persona he would be playing more an active role of a hero than he has so far. In the first series he seemed to play that role as expected, but starting with last season he didn't seem as preoccupied with it, and then you consider what he did with the Lizards and so on, it just seems that whatever he had left as far as empathy goes towards humanity (or other beings not part of his Tomb) has been vastly diminished.
Main issue remains: the anime spends a lot of time on world building (which i like!), but it does so at the expense of pushing forward the main story. If we were granted 52+ episodes, that'd be fine. But we're running into the same pitfall that was S2.
Two things I want to see happen:
- the humans accomplish something of significance
- one of Ainz' commanders is killed for good. Not Albedo, though, she's hot ;i
Bonus happening: A new plot opens about Ainz' origin as a human who played an.mmorpg.
I don't think even the lowest of his minions will ever be killed for good.
