Windows 10 and the abortion that it is

2-3 weeks ago my Windows 10 did an update that caused 100 % CPU (Quad Core 3.8ghz). Probably not the best today but 5 years ago it was decent lol. It was using 100 % CPU and 11GB or 12GB of RAM. I noticed that despite my saving files to external Hard drives I had 450GB of 1.3TiB of HDD space. I formatted and decided to go back to Windows 8 (8.1 after all the updates). So much better than Windows 10.

Anyone else have issues with Windows 10?

My Windows 10 was behaving like Windows Millennium Edition and would not release system resources. Use to use 20-40 % when running games. Now it just pointless to use Windows 10. At least now I can have 100 windows of IE open and only use 800MB of memory instead of 9GB. I am always using 15-20 % CPU now and 3500GB of RAM max in Task Manager.

Windows 10 is the biggest mistake ever. I am surprised I survived 3 years with it. Back on 8/8.1 and it just feels so much better. 8/8.1 is far superior than 10. Why would Microsoft update it with such bad resource management? Hopefully 8 and 8.1 won't let me down.

I have not been having an issue like that with W10, but I encountered a different problem.

In W10, if you use an NTFS file system with compression enabled, saved files to the drive will use twice the disk space until you power cycle the relevant drive (or OS). I was baffled at why my backups used twice the disk space and kept failing (since I only have space for 1 backup at a time). It took a while to work this out as the file itself appears fine; disk used space simply doubles. To fix it, just make sure your destination folder is not compressed. You don't have to decompress the entire destination drive.

Aside from that, no major issues. I still don't use Cortana, and hate the fact that Settings and Control Panel are two different entities.

Ohhh and maybe that is what happened to me. I was thinking since it was not freeing up resources even after I closed programs, I was thinking it was continuously being stored and I just could not see it being stored. I don't trust windows 10 now. With all programs closed and computer idle, my Task Manager showed 0-1 % usage. So much better. Why MS would stop supporting versions that actually work, is a mystery.

My desktop has had no problems worth mentioning with Win10. After the latest big patches a week ago, my laptop's power saving features got royally screwed, but after a bit of registry tweaking and fighting the settings a number of times, it seems to work again.

For anybody playing modern games Win10 is a must due to the DX12. I haven't particularly missed Win7. Never had the abominations called Win8/8.1 on my PCs, fortunately. It took a bit of getting used to how this version is much simpler graphically than the past ones despite PCs being stronger, but it's not a deal breaker. If I had to mention a single thing that bothered me from the beginning and still does, it's MS dropping the old photo viewer. The new one is a pos. But I haven't got around to messing with the registry to enable the old one, which apparently still is there, but too well hidden unless you have an upgraded Win10, not a fresh install like I do.

Ya Kraco, not sure why the last update did not agree with my computer. So far windows 8.1 is being a blessing. The directx 12 is why I upgraded to Windows 10. It's just not a huge selling point for me anymore. The more I work with Windows 10, the more similar it is to the other abortion that is Windows ME (Millennium Edition). Windows ME in App form.

For now I think I will be remaining with Windows 8.1. I don't do a lot of PC gaming. Mostly PS4 at the moment. Not a lot of great MMORPGs out there.

I am glad it's working for you issue free.

8.1 is awesome, just install Windows Classic Shell and all's good.

    I hate Windows 10.

Windows 10 felt like the next logical way to move off Windows 7 since support was finishing. It's been largely problem free, comparable to Windows 7 from my experience.

I may be forced to reinstall windows 10 now. Seems a lot of web pages are not loading correctly now, probably for the 3D in Windows 10 which is absent in windows 8/8.1. -Sigh-

Must be Microsoft's way of forcing people to upgrade. I get a lot of "Not supported" on webpages now. I suspect the 3D in Windows 10 is the reason. Looks like I will be formatting and installing Windows 10 again. Might as well do with a clean install of everything.

Nope, I never liked firefox or Google chrome. Always liked IE. I need that 3D for apps I need for games I play and connectivity reasons. Pretty sure I need that DX12 for what I need to do.

If you want to stick to MS browsers, at least try Edge. IE isn't a priority for MS anymore.

I never thought a non-corporation would ever prefer IE over anything.

Is it? Never noticed it with 10 lol

    - Edit -

Back on Windows 10. Using Edge at this moment. Feels weird at least it let me import my favorites list that I saved to external HDD. It feels so basic. I will see how this goes.

After upgrading again I think my PC might be ready to die. The Hard Drive was making click click sounds after the update. So far nothing for the past 2 hours. Lets hope it stays that way. Tried to use IE as well and it was slow, very very slow and it even hanged at one point.

I hope Edge has 3D as part of it. So I can actually view sites again.
