For all we know, she could be one of Kumoko's remnants that evolved beyond the others.
I said confirmed because my last post here was me guessing Kumoko was the white girl. The only other red herring was actually the demon lord, which is now ruled out. All the other white spiders shown were actually Kumoko or her vestiges. Sure, white girl can be an evolved remnant, but that is still technically Kumoko.

Possibly pretty deep in the technicalities, depending on what the pale woman actually is.

She has 8 eyes hidden in her normal looking irises. They flashed on screen when she attacked Julius' party.

    She's spider kin for sure.

She uses rot attacks too, which as far as we know and implied by D, the only spider who has that and survived to evolve is Kumoko. She nearly killed herself the first time she used it in the last evolution, and she already had rot resistance.

I'm not saying it's NOT her. But saying it's "confirmed" is stupid at this point after they've had multiple fakeouts.

Right, vestiges. A thing they only confirmed existed in this episode. Which means anything that was a vestige was a Kumoko red herring until now.

But vestiges are a part or at least produced by her, whereas the demon lord is a completely different character. It isn't much of a red herring to trick the audience into thinking parts/clones of herself are herself.

Well, that means the vestiges are completely different characters too

Demon lord is the origin-spider whose offspring created Kumoko whose offspring are probably the" nightmare's vestiges".
They are all different entities because otherwise, kin-control wouldn't work on them.
But the Demon Lord was able to use kin-control on them.

When did the demon lord kin-control Kumoko's vestiges? I must've missed that.

Presumably referring to when the Ariel remarked that someone was "getting above their station" and the Vestige froze in fear, allowing Julius to get a killing blow on it.

She may have some degree of connection to them, the same way Kumoko is killing her own mother.

If I had to guess, it's all according to Kumoko's design. I still think Kumoko is hiding somewhere, though I don't mean strictly physically. Being the pale woman would be a bit too much in plain sight, in my opinion. I don't see why the Demon Lord would risk it, nor why Kumoko herself would risk it. The pale woman being just the most developed vestige would be more plausible, based on what I can see now. If the vestiges are under the Demon Lord's control, as far as the Demon Lord knows, she wouldn't feel the pressure to hunt them down, as it would also reduce her army's fighting power. She ought to be happy as long as Kumoko herself is destroyed, seeing how she also needs to end the mental attack.

However, since we got a scene of Kumoko wondering how to avoid annihilation and because the vestiges simply exist, like I said before, I reckon they are some kind of backups for Kumoko. The Demon Lord wouldn't realise it. Technically this could bring us to the pale woman being a backup Kumoko already used, without the Demon Lord having a clue, but, again, I don't see why Kumoko would risk serving right under the Demon Lord's nose. The Demon Lord was already once "betrayed" by one of her spiders, so in the future she ought to be all the more careful, logically.

    Episode 18

    ---------------------------

The Kumoko sections are just so much fun. Hero sections.. okay or miss sometimes.

So we now know that Ariel, Potimas and Dustin are rather big players in the world, with Ariel being once ?close to the Goddess. No one seems to be mentioning Dragon King fellow. For all we know, D could have played a Goddess role in the past.

Bandit killing was slightly weird. From the episode, there was no suggestion that the praying group were bandits. It just looked like Kumoko killed a bunch of hooded praying men. Rather confusing to watch.

    Also...
"Sir, there's big trouble. The monster's healing the ill!!"
    Okay... yeah.. how troublesome.

    She's so dumb sometimes...

    "Oh, they're starving..."

    "Be sure to eat more!"

"Sure! I'll gladly accept your offering of food!"

Kids don't get liver cancer. They get stuff like leukemia or various bone cancers (Osteosarcomas and Ewing sarcoma).

That guy got liver cancer by eating mouldy food, so Kumoko and her poison/rot resistance taking it instead was a good move from my perspective.

Another idea regarding Kumoko and the demon lord:
-We've been led to think Kumoko is now that mute girl sent to kill and that she's now an underling to the demon lord.
But what if she's in fact the one controlling the demon lord ?
Far in the future, her skills would just be out of this world, probably administrator or game/world creator class.
She might use the demon lord as a puppet to pull the strings without being noticed.
Let's not forger she knows that world is doomed and she's probably trying to find solution, as is the demon lord who also got access to the same revelation.
There's control, but there's also working towards the same goal. That could work with what we've seen from the present timeline.

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.

The praying people were later confirmed to be the pontiff's spies. Kumoko was right to kill them too.

Foul Feeder is the same skill Kumoko got from eating the Rot bugs. So the kid got liver cancer from eating something far worse than moldy food, probably out of desperation. His mother was healthier, but only barely.

It's really funny that Kumoko is accidentally accelerating two wars. Whatever nasty plan the elves have, and a regular religious crusade. Three if Ariel starts her war because she crosses the other two while trying to kill her uncooperative spawn.

    - Shun seems to have a good opinion of the pontiff, and while he's not good, the pontiff doesn't seem to have some global nastiness and secret world domination plan like the elves do. He just wants to exterminate the other sect. He also commented that everything the elves do make the overall world shittier. I really want to know more about that!

    - The elves are involved in human trafficking (to collect reincarnations, guess who is connected to that?!), but Potiamas seems to have other ambitions achieved through routine assassinations, and manipulating other political factions to do his dirty work for him. Like Shun's father. The elves are really shitty people, and probably the worst of all the organizations we've seen.

    - I assume the pontiff actually isn't mind controlled, he's just using Hugo the way the elves have been using Shun's family. It's all political too, because he even knows they both worship the same deity.

    - Sophia's family is getting caught in the middle of a turf war between the elves and the pontiff. Both factions want them dead. The pontiff because they're prominent goddess worshipers, and the elves because they're evil and collecting reincarnations for some plan.

Sophia's ditzy mom is real cute though. Cheerfully extoling a demon spider as a divine beast while her husband is wisely suspicious of a third faction's representative appearing before his family.

At least Kumoko got a sweet red apple, not some bitter green one.

The problem is that we were just shown Kumoko killing any random group of hooded people. It was kind of funny in a morbid way. A hood makes you a bandit and free to be killed? Is it London or something?

Wouldn't you think Potimas knows everything? That the world is doomed. You say he and the elves are wicked and the nastiest of them all, but maybe they are just lacking resources and desperate to follow some plan supposed to save the world. The teacher loli elf certainly acted in a way that suggests she knows everything, like I've said before. Their plan might be very controversial, but sometimes you don't have a choice.

Hugo didn't seem that bright if you ask me, no matter how talented he was training his skills up. He seems like a narcissist, who absolutely needs to feel like he's the mighties dude around, and those surrounding him must praise him. He would be exceedingly easy for someone skillful enough to use as a tool. Just like he apparently is being used.

Lots of evil characters in this story. Or more like realistic, haha. In real history many of the "great people" who changed the world were ruthless.

She's beyond wise, trying to be friendly to Kumoko.

It would be if that was WHY she killed them. But she didn't know that. So that makes her lucky, not right.

    Hmm, interesting.

She IS currently being gnawed by one of Kumoko's minds. It would be interesting if that mind ends up taking her over, and she's just a puppet.

We could say the same about the pontiff or Ariel.

But I kinda don't want to believe the elves. Mostly because Potimas was shown to be a racist on top of all his shadiness to the half-elf servant now in Shun's adventuring party. Oh, and the fact that his routine method is assassination and kidnapping. Sophia beheaded him specifically for a reason, we just haven't seen it yet.

The pontiff controls the masses of people, and Ariel just uses straightforward brute force.

I don't believe the pontiff knows everything, though. He was already shown not to even know why Potimas is collecting kids, even though he was smart enough to realise there must be something significant behind it. I also feel like trying to murder masses of fellow humans because of a simple doctrine difference is exceedingly stupid. Even though in RL it's a problem in the Middle East now and was a problem in Europe some hundreds of years ago. However, unlike us, the pontiff lives in a world with horrible monsters led by a demon lord and also non-human humanoids, who aren't necessarily friendly, like the elves. Kind of strange to have massacring other humans as his first priority.

I do admit your other points about Potimas are quite solid. He has some flaws that make it hard to believe he's only interested in saving the world, for example, instead of saving the world by making others than his own people pay the price. It's still a bit weird the teacher has been so willingly going along with it. Do you think she's evil as well?

I mean, whether Kumoko knew for sure if those were bandits or not .... so casually and gleefully murdering unassuming people en masse was definitely the act of a villain. Not that I haven't accepted that about her already, but I don't think it's ultimatey meaningful to discuss the identity of the hooded people. I was hoping that she'd wait for the act of their crimes before stopping them, though. Oh well.

But that aside, Kumoko's bits were hilarious as always. I really hope she can active the human-form skill soon, though. At the very least, let her find the skill "human voice", to make communication easier. :> I hope we'll get a lot of Kumoko healing everyone next week, and how everyone reacts to a monster doing good

Not sure how relevant Potimas and the priest guy are. Ariel (the humanoid spider demon lord girl, right?) seems to be vastly more powerful than those two, so ... whatever? Only Potimas is interesting, because he seems to try and do something with the reincarnated children.

Speaking of which: Has it been established as of yet whether this world is a REAL world or just a computer world? And whether D is supposed to be an actual god, or just an admin that's overseeing a video game? Yes, not that much difference for the characters inside the world, but a huge difference for us, the audience.

The first fictional loli that made me fall for her
