Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano Datta

"* Based on a love comedy light novel series written by Kamishiro Kyousuke and illustrated by Takayaki.

Mizuto and Yume are a former couple who enjoyed a relationship in junior high school, but became more and more irritated at each other, and used their graduation as an opportunity to break up. But on the day before entering high school, the two reunite in the most unlikely way: with their parents announcing a marriage, with Mizuto and Yume now becoming step-siblings. Wanting to prioritize their parents' relationship, the two promise to not fool around with each other, establishing a rule where "the first one to get aroused" loses.

I like what I'm seeing, but I'm not sure how much of that is because of the quality of the scenario and chemistry, and how much is because this serves as a palate cleanse from the torrent of isekai.

As for information that might be useful to you, this show is a rekindling style romance where the two mains now hate each other, yet are obviously in hate with each other. Having a pre-exisitng relationship saves us a lot of time and tropes. It plays the exposition close, not even explaining the backdrop until the end of ep 2. It is simple to pick up on from the context clues, and one might even enjoy it more that way. The one-upmanship and competition to establish dominance predictably backfiring into much doki doki is as fun as these things ever are. So far, the material isn't threaded by any overarching plot, so expect simple episodic hijinks bringing these two together with some side characters mixed in (decent side characters, I might add). Could be worth a watch to balance out your viewing schedule this season, but nothing to rock your world.

Maybe this could partially fill that Kaguya-sama shaped hole in your heart? Just kidding, this isn't one quarter as well produced, but your mileage may vary.

There's drama here? Or is it romantic tension?

This isn't Kaguya-ish at all imho.

It's okay, I watch it.... but it ain't much.
    Supporting cast seems boring.

@netflight - The entire premise and even subsequent events are all drama.

Guess I didn't register that as drama, then. I associate drama as being more serious (correct or not).

Does Akatsuki classify as a yandere, just being obsessive, or does it require the entire disposition and rejection of others? She said she's willing to marry Mizuto to get close to Yume. That isn't healthy behavior, but how deep does it go? I doubt we'll get any serious exploration of a deranged mind, but depending on how far down the rabbit hole goes, this could be interesting... but for real, this will serve as a platform for more hijinks like this supposed 'date' to bring forth more doki doki.

Also, this story is so far slightly 'favoring' Mizuto from a protagonist standpoint. Yume gets her share of scenes, but most of them are filled with flowery thoughts of love lost and longed for, while Mizuto I see having more 'moved on'. Does that suggest this is more catering to the male 'gaze'? Just a thought.

Not much to discuss, but the way the show is handling the broken relationship is... somewhat unique? Neither character is giving any serious thought to resuming the relationship out of consideration for the parents, and the show is kind of rolling with that. More of a triangle than a harem, only two of the girls are even serious about maybe being with him. Its kind of generous, because his personality is pretty 'blech'; just your run of the mill 'above it all' loner protagonist who just happens to have been nice to girls that fall in love with the first person to be nice to them. What a surprise.

Isane is a nice addition, but I'm not convinced even her thin character has been consistent since her debut. I though at first maybe being rejected awakened/broke something within her, but Mizuto is unfazed like this (sexual advances and other lewd otaku pandering behavior) has always been the norm.

The flashback arc detailing better why the relationship fell apart, if anything, made me dislike the social ineptitude and stubbornness of the two mains more as it played out. Communication isn't easy for everyone, but if you're already intimate with someone, there should be something more than dumb kids.

Yume's mom is right. Social butterfly she is, she can do better sooner than wait around for her stepbrother to decide that (legal) incest is the wining move.
