I heard some good things about this and got excited. The anime itself is fairly bland and generic currently.

I read a chapter or two after seeing Krayz33's. description, and the the whole 2H adoption thing made way more sense in the manga. It also showed how MC is actually a good teacher instead of "oh your sword got chipped, go bigger".

I might watch more depending on what else tickles my fancy.

The fight vs white haired girl was entertaining.

edit: oh yeah, and he never gave Mewi her sister's ring back.

Welp, I can only recommend the manga.. it's quick to read and overall rather well written and the panels look great.
After you said you liked the fight, I took a quick look, and yeah - that was rather nice and kinda what I hoped to see from this show..
But it's not worth it to bother when 99% of it feels so lifeless and unimportant, because they ignored the story and characters.

By the looks of it, seems like they are either skipping entire arcs and battles, and added fillers instead for whatever reason?
If I remember correctly, after the church/ressurection stuff, he is curing his wounds and goes directly to the magic academy to enroll Mewi

Still angry about what they did to Spur (the knight who was fighting MC in the church that went "berserk").
Like wtf...*screams internally*. In the manga it's a real character with motives, duties, regrets and agenda,a backgroundstory and a reputation and special abilities and great techniques that are on par to MCs.
In the show it's "random knight thats really angry and supposedly strong enough to last 5 seconds longer against MC"
He's not even using a 2handed cleaver like shown in the anime, in the manga, he is using a thrusting sword / rapier and is basically some kind of "assassin gone knight" that was extremely loyal to (from what I remember) some kind of princess who got killed by political rivals or something.

How far along is the manga? Can you link a good site to read it?

as far as I know, it's only translated to Volume 7 (I think?). Not sure how far along it actually is, or if that's how far it goes, so far. I don't know if it got any updates in the last few months either.

That's... 1 arc after the "church/zombie priest" arc - but everything up to that point is different anyway and that arc especially is way longer with different characters, as I already mentioned.

The only thing that this show got right, at least in spirit, is that everyone but MC has mostly anime moves, while MC is doing basic stuff and handles it with technique.

I think "GD Scans" (something like that) has it translated, but the site is uber-slow sometimes ... or always.. at least on my computer(s).
The thread in the Manga-area I made a while back has a link to manga-updates. Afaik that site lists what groups "work" on it too, right?

Rose was fun. If this was in real life maybe there'd be too much pressure, but as a character she seems to be the oldest of the bunch and doesn't act like she grew up admiring the teacher - which is actually a bonus.

Plus, she uses sword and shield.

And has the braided over-the-shoulder hair.

And has the "Ara ara" voice.

Looks like it got a second season greenlit for next year. I never got around to finishing it, but maybe I should approach it on its own terms if I can divorce it from my expectations...

I think I've had my fill of "A bunch of girls think this dude is cool but hasn't got much else to offer" for now. At least, in this specific rendition.

Just give me my next dose of Shadow/Alpha/Delta dammit.
